The Story

The Tribot family has lived in Criteuil-la-Magdeleine since the mid-19 century. The vineyard has always been passed down from one generation to another. Today, Samuel, Annick and Jean-Michel’s son, is the 5th generation of the family to farm this 54ha vineyard.

In the early 1970s, Annick married Jean-Michel Tribot, who came to help his father Regis running of the estate.

Throughout the years, Regis, a demanding winegrower with a strong character, was the sole manager of the vineyards. A loyal friend of André Giraud, renowned cellar master at Rémy Martin between 1961 and 1990, Regis received invaluable advice on distillation and cognac aging. After his father's death, Jean-Michel took over and prepared his son Samuel for his own succession. During his winegrowing studies, Samuel interned with my father-in law, Jean-Luc, distilling and vine pruning.

Annick is a breath of fresh air dedicating her outgoing nature to organizing theater presentations, participating in various associations and, above all, in her work as a teacher at the Sainte Marthe school in Châteauneuf sur Charente, where she was Jean’s teacher. It was through her that our two families became friends.

Living separate lives, though nearby, our two families lost sight of each other.

We renewed our ties 2 years ago when we met their daughter Alix, a sales representative for a cork company.

There's no mystery to creating excellent cognac: you need passion for cognac and the craft, a taste for work well done, and time does the rest. Annick uses a very apt metaphor, in my opinion:

“Cognac is like a child: vines require 9 months of care in the vineyards, fostering hope... Then, the character of the wine is born, its roundness, its aromas make it a promise for the future... Then, in the serene warmth of the distillery, it is finally truly brought into the world... Day after day, with care and love, it is raised, giving it every possible advantage: cellars adapted to our terroir, built of local stone, quality oak barrels as cradles, great vigilance and patience, so that its personality finally reveals itself and gives it the typicality of the terroir from which it draws its roots...”.

All Maison Tribot cognacs are distilled in 25hl stills installed in 1968 and 1991, and are matured in the 6 cellars on the estate, in casks made from staves dried on site and crafted by Mr. Pelletant, a talented cooper in Mainxe.

This L.92 cognac truly seduced us which, symbolically, corresponds to the year, 1992, that Annick joined her husband Jean-Michel full-time on the estate.

In March 2025, we drew 152 bottles from this single cask at 45.9% alc./vol.
